Injectable Treatments in Brooklyn & Staten Island
A revitalized, youthful appearance is achievable with injectable treatments like Sculptra® and Radiesse®. These modern dermal fillers restore lost volume, smooth out wrinkles, and enhance facial contours for natural-looking rejuvenation. At kalon Dermatology – one of the top dermatology clinics serving Brooklyn and Staten Island, our board-certified dermatologists have extensive experience in cosmetic injectables. We offer Sculptra and Radiesse treatments at our state-of-the-art clinics, providing patients with safe, effective, and long-lasting results. In this service page, we’ll explain what Sculptra and Radiesse are, how they work, and why kalon Dermatology is a trusted choice for your injectable treatments.
What Are Sculptra and Radiesse?
Sculptra® and Radiesse® are FDA-approved injectable fillers used to combat signs of aging by restoring facial volume and smoothing wrinkles. Unlike traditional hyaluronic acid fillers, Sculptra and Radiesse use unique biocompatible ingredients that not only fill in areas of volume loss but also stimulate your skin’s own collagen production. This collagen stimulation helps improve skin firmness and texture over time, leading to natural-looking, long-lasting rejuvenation. Both Sculptra and Radiesse are considered collagen biostimulators, meaning they encourage your body to produce new collagen and elastin, the proteins that keep skin plump and youthful. Both fillers target facial wrinkles and volume loss. Common treatment areas include the nasolabial folds (smile lines between the nose and mouth), marionette lines (lines from the corners of the mouth down to the chin), chin wrinkles, and hollow or sunken cheeks. Sculptra and Radiesse can effectively plump these areas to soften creases and restore youthful contours. At kalon Dermatology, our experts will evaluate your skin concerns and determine whether Sculptra, Radiesse, or a combination of treatments is best suited to achieve your goals.
Sculptra®: Stimulate Collagen for Lasting Volume
Sculptra® is often described as a collagen stimulator rather than a traditional filler. Its active ingredient, PLLA, is the same material used in dissolvable stitches and has a proven record of safety. When injected into the deeper dermis, Sculptra microparticles trigger a mild inflammatory response that recruits fibroblast cells. These cells gradually produce new collagen fibers around the Sculptra particles. Over a series of treatments, this process rebuilds the skin’s structural foundation, resulting in fuller volume and improved skin thickness that can last for up to two years.

What to expect with Sculptra
Treatment typically involves 2 to 3 sessions spaced a few weeks apart. Each session is quick (usually 30 to 45 minutes) and involves a series of injections using fine needles. Our dermatologists may apply a topical numbing cream beforehand to ensure your comfort. Sculptra is mixed with sterile water and sometimes lidocaine for injection, and after injection we will massage the treated areas to distribute the product evenly. We also advise following the “5-5-5” aftercare rule: massage the area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days. This simple massage routine helps ensure the Sculptra is evenly spread and stimulates collagen uniformly, maximizing your results. One of the key advantages of Sculptra is its gradual, subtle enhancement. Patients often start to notice improved volume and smoother skin about 4 to 6 weeks after the first session, with optimal results developing after the full course of treatment which might be over 2 to 3 months. Because the collagen growth happens naturally, the outcome looks very soft and non-artificial. People will notice you look refreshed but it won’t be obvious that you had work done. Results from Sculptra can last around 2 years or even longer in many patients. Occasional maintenance injections for example, a yearly touch-up can help prolong the collagen stimulation and keep your youthful look sustained.
Radiesse®: Instant Lift and Contour Enhancement
Radiesse® is a versatile dermal filler known for providing an instant lift to sagging or creased areas of the skin. Its CaHA microsphere formula acts as a structural support beneath the skin, immediately filling deep lines and hollows. This makes Radiesse especially effective for treating moderate to severe wrinkles such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines, as well as adding definition to areas like the cheeks and jawline. In fact, Radiesse (+) (the version pre-mixed with lidocaine) is the first injectable FDA-approved specifically for improving jawline contour. An attractive option for patients looking to achieve a more defined chin and jaw profile without surgery. Over time, the CaHA particles in Radiesse also stimulate your body’s collagen production though via a non-inflammatory mechanism, meaning that even after the gel carrier is absorbed, you can enjoy firmer skin and improved texture due to the new collagen matrix.
What to expect with Radiesse:
A Radiesse treatment session is typically completed in under 30 minutes. Our dermatologist will carefully mark the injection points and may use a local anesthetic or the Radiesse (+) product with built-in lidocaine to minimize discomfort. Radiesse is injected deeper into the dermis or even just above the bone in some areas, which is ideal for lifting and structural support. You will see the volumizing effect immediately for example, folds and depressions will appear smoother right after the injections. There might be some mild swelling or bruising at injection sites, but this is temporary and should resolve within a few days. Most patients resume their normal activities right away, as there is essentially no downtime required with Radiesse. Patients love that Radiesse provides instant gratification by erasing lines and restoring fullness on the spot, while also delivering ongoing benefits as collagen grows. Results from Radiesse are long-lasting, typically around 12 to 18 months of improvement before the filler naturally metabolizes. Many people find that even as the immediate filler effect gradually diminishes, their skin is left in better condition than before due to the collagen stimulation. A yearly Radiesse touch-up can help maintain smooth contours continuously. Radiesse is also a top choice for hand rejuvenation; if aging hands with visible veins and tendons are a concern, our providers can use Radiesse to replenish lost volume on the back of the hands, with results lasting about a year.
Sculptra vs. Radiesse: Which Injectable is Right for You?
You might be wondering whether Sculptra or Radiesse is the better choice for your particular concerns. The answer depends on your goals, timeline, and the specific areas you want to treat. Both Sculptra and Radiesse are excellent for correcting age-related volume loss and wrinkles, but there are a few differences to consider:
Speed of Results
Radiesse provides near-instant results. You leave the office with plumper, smoother skin the same day. Sculptra’s results develop more gradually over several weeks. If you have an upcoming event in the very near future and need a quick fix for deep folds, Radiesse might be preferable. If you’re not in a rush and prefer subtle improvement over time, Sculptra is ideal.
Longevity
Sculptra is one of the longest-lasting injectables on the market, with results that often last over two years after a full treatment series. Radiesse results generally last around a year or slightly more before a refresh is needed. Both offer longer-lasting effects than typical hyaluronic acid fillers, but Sculptra’s collagen build tends to persist longer.
Treatment Areas and Aesthetic Goals
For widespread facial volume loss, Sculptra’s global collagen stimulation can be very effective at improving overall facial fullness and skin quality. For targeted correction of specific deep wrinkles or for adding structural definition e.g. lifting a precise fold or enhancing a jawline or cheekbone, Radiesse’s thick, moldable gel may achieve the desired contour immediately. In some cases, our dermatologists might even recommend using both: Sculptra to improve general collagen support, and a touch of Radiesse to fine-tune particular areas that need a quick lift.
Maintenance
Sculptra typically involves a series of initial treatments (usually 2 to 3 sessions) to build up the collagen matrix, whereas Radiesse often achieves the desired correction in a single session. However, both will require maintenance in the long run. Sculptra might need a booster treatment every couple of years, and Radiesse an annual injection to sustain results, since the body continues to age and naturally absorb these materials. During your consultation at kalon Dermatology, our provider will examine your skin and listen to your concerns to help determine the best approach. We pride ourselves on honest guidance: if one product is better suited to your needs, we’ll explain why. In some cases, if neither Sculptra nor Radiesse is the perfect fit, we have a full range of other injectable options like hyaluronic acid fillers or Botox to ensure you get the optimal treatment for your unique situation. Our goal is for you to achieve rejuvenation that fits your lifestyle and expectations, whether that means a quick touch-up or a gradual transformation.
