Is kalon's Filler Treatment Right for Your Concern?
Match your concern to the right filler approach in 30 seconds
This Concern Match is informational, not medical advice. Filler types, dosing, placement, and outcomes vary by individual. Schedule an in-person consultation for personalized recommendations.
Our Approach: Subtle Results That Look Like You
Fillers should restore what time and volume loss took, so the result looks like a rested version of you. We plan placement to your features and dose with restraint, and a consultation comes first so you agree on the plan before anything is placed.
The "Less is More" Promise
Many patients ask us the same question before their first treatment: "What is it going to look like after? Will it change my appearance?" We understand this concern completely. At kalon Dermatology, we believe the finest filler work is the kind nobody notices. You should look refreshed, rested, and like the most natural version of yourself, not like you had "work done."
Restoration Over Alteration
Our providers focus on restoring what time has taken away rather than creating an artificial look. Volume loss happens naturally as we age, and strategic filler placement simply returns structure and fullness to areas that have deflated over time. The goal is balance and harmony across your entire face.
Whole Face Assessment
During your consultation, we evaluate your facial proportions as a complete picture. Rather than treating isolated areas, we consider how each treatment zone affects the others. This comprehensive approach prevents the overdone appearance that concerns so many patients.
Targeted Filler Treatments for Every Concern
At kalon Dermatology, we treat three main categories of filler areas: face, lips, and body. Each requires different techniques, products, and expertise. Here is what you need to know about our most requested treatments.
Under Eye and Tear Trough Fillers | Refresh Tired Eyes
The under eye area is one of our most popular treatment zones. Hollowness beneath the eyes creates shadows that make you look exhausted even after a full night of sleep. Carefully placed filler restores volume to this delicate area, reducing the appearance of dark circles and creating a more awake, youthful look. Results typically last 8 months to 1 year due to minimal movement in this area. under eye fillers Brooklyn, tear trough filler Staten Island, dark circle treatment
Cheek and Midface Fillers | Lift and Contour
The cheekbone area is another highly requested treatment at our Brooklyn and Staten Island locations. As facial fat pads descend with age, the midface loses its youthful contour. Strategic cheek filler restores this structure, which also provides a subtle lifting effect to the lower face. Well-placed cheek filler can reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds without directly treating them. Results typically last 8 months to over 1 year depending on product selection. cheek fillers Brooklyn, facial contouring Staten Island, midface volume restoration
Masseter and Jawline Fillers | Define Your Profile
The masseter area and jawline define your facial profile. Filler in these zones can slim an overly square jaw, add definition to a weak chin, or create better balance between your upper and lower face. This treatment is popular among patients seeking a more sculpted, defined appearance without surgery. Results typically last 8 months to 1 year or longer. jawline filler Brooklyn, chin filler Staten Island, facial slimming
Nasolabial Folds and Marionette Lines | Smooth Deep Lines
The nasolabial folds run from the sides of your nose to the corners of your mouth. Marionette lines extend from the mouth corners down toward the chin. These creases deepen with age and can create a tired or unhappy expression. Filler softens these lines while maintaining natural facial movement. Results typically last 8 months to 1 year. nasolabial fold filler Brooklyn, smile line treatment, marionette line filler Staten Island
Lip Enhancement | Volume and Definition
Lip fillers are their own category of treatment. Whether you want subtle hydration, enhanced definition of your cupid's bow, correction of asymmetry, or noticeable volume, our providers customize every lip treatment to your facial proportions and personal goals. We specialize in natural lip enhancement that complements your features. Lip fillers typically last 6 to 8 months due to the constant movement from talking and eating. Regular maintenance keeps your results consistent. lip fillers Brooklyn, lip injections Staten Island, natural lip enhancement
Body Fillers | Hands, Buttocks, and Beyond
Beyond facial treatments, fillers can restore volume to the hands (reducing visible veins and tendons) and enhance body contours including the buttocks. These areas often show aging or require volume that exercise alone cannot provide. Body fillers often last 1 year or longer due to less movement in these areas. hand rejuvenation Brooklyn, body fillers Staten Island Looking for comprehensive facial rejuvenation? Benefits of Fillers
Dermal fillers add volume where it has been lost, lift sagging contours, and soften lines without surgery or downtime. The most common gains our Brooklyn patients ask about are smoother smile lines and nasolabial folds, more defined cheek contour, fuller and more symmetric lips, and rehydrated under-eye hollows. Modern hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are FDA-cleared, reversible if needed, and tuned to behave differently in different parts of the face: a soft, water-retaining product for lips, a firmer, more lifting product for cheeks. Used conservatively, fillers refresh the face in a way most people around you cannot identify, only respond to [1].
Ideal Candidates for Dermal Fillers
The best candidates for dermal fillers are adults in good health, typically 25 to 65, who notice volume loss, deeper folds, thinner lips, or flatter cheek projection and who want a non-surgical correction with results in days, not months. Younger patients sometimes use small-volume lip and chin treatments for shape balance, while patients in their 40s to 60s usually combine cheek and mid-face restoration with smile-line softening.
Fillers are not appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in patients with active facial infection or significant bleeding disorder, or in patients with a history of severe allergic reaction to any filler ingredient. Realistic expectations matter: fillers restore and refresh, they do not stop aging or replace a surgical lift when one is genuinely needed.
Personal Consultation with Dr. David Biro
Every filler treatment at kalon starts with a private consultation with Dr. David Biro, MD, PhD, board-certified dermatologist. Dr. Biro reviews your medical history and current medications, photographs your resting and animated face from multiple angles, and walks you through which areas would benefit most, which product family fits your facial structure, and roughly how many syringes a balanced result would take. You leave the consultation with a written plan and a price range, never a hard sell. If we agree the timing or treatment is not right, we tell you, even if that means a smaller appointment than you came in expecting.
How to Prepare for Your Filler Appointment
Filler injections are quick, but a few simple steps in the days before reduce bruising, swelling, and complications. Stop ibuprofen, naproxen, and other NSAIDs 5 to 7 days before your appointment unless your doctor has prescribed them. Avoid aspirin (unless cardiac), fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo, ginseng, garlic supplements, and alcohol for 48 hours pre-treatment.
If you have a history of cold sores, ask Dr. Biro about a short antiviral course before lip filler. Eat a normal meal beforehand, hydrate well, and arrive with a clean face if convenient. Bring a list of any new medications or supplements started since your consultation [2].
The Filler Procedure: What to Expect Step by Step
A typical kalon filler appointment is 30 to 45 minutes. After a brief check-in and updated medical history review, we take photographs and mark target points on your face. We apply topical numbing for 15 to 20 minutes; many HA fillers also contain lidocaine for additional comfort. Dr. Biro then injects the filler using small-gauge needles or microcannulas depending on the area, pausing to assess symmetry and ask you how each area feels and looks.
Each injection takes seconds; total injection time is usually under 15 minutes. We finish with gentle massage to shape the product, ice to reduce immediate swelling, and a written aftercare summary. You can drive yourself home and return to most light activities the same day [3].
Recovery and Aftercare
The first 24 hours after filler are the most important. Apply ice 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off, for the first 4 to 6 hours to control swelling. Avoid touching, rubbing, or massaging the treated area, and skip makeup for the rest of the day. Sleep with your head slightly elevated the first night.
Avoid strenuous exercise, hot showers, saunas, hot yoga, alcohol, and dental work for 24 to 48 hours. Mild bruising or swelling is normal and resolves in 3 to 7 days; small lumps that you can feel but cannot see usually settle within 2 weeks. Call us right away for sudden severe pain, color change, or vision change after injection (rare, but always treated as urgent).
Filler Results : Onset, Peak, and Duration
You will see immediate volume the moment Dr. Biro finishes injecting. The first 1 to 2 weeks include some swelling that can read as slightly more product than will actually settle in. The “true” result emerges around weeks 2 to 4, after the filler integrates with surrounding tissue.
Duration depends on product family and treatment area: lip HA filler typically lasts 6 to 12 months, smile-line HA filler 9 to 12 months, cheek and chin HA filler 12 to 18 months, and biostimulators like Sculptra build collagen over 3 to 6 months and can last 24 months or longer. Areas with more movement (lips, around the mouth) metabolize filler faster than less mobile areas (cheeks, chin). A small touch-up at 4 to 6 months often preserves the result longer than waiting for full breakdown [4].
Dermal Fillers for Smile Lines (Nasolabial Folds)
The lines that run from the corners of your nose down to the corners of your mouth are technically called nasolabial folds. Most people call them smile lines. Both terms refer to the same anatomy, and both are treatable with dermal fillers at our Brooklyn, Bay Ridge, and Staten Island offices.
Why Smile Lines Form
1. Collagen and elastin loss. Starting in your late twenties, your skin produces less collagen each year. The cushioning that kept the skin around your mouth firm starts to thin.
2. Volume loss in the midface. As the cheek pad descends with age, the skin above the smile line loses its support. The fold deepens because there is less tissue holding it up from above.
3. Repeated facial expression. Years of smiling, laughing, and talking crease the same skin in the same place. Static lines form on top of the dynamic ones.
Why Fillers Work for Smile Lines Specifically
Smile lines are a structural problem, not just a wrinkle. Topical creams and Botox cannot fix them because the issue is missing volume, not muscle movement. Hyaluronic acid fillers add the cushioning back. Most patients see immediate softening as soon as the filler is placed, with full results visible after the swelling settles in five to seven days.
At kalon Dermatology we typically use the RHA collection for smile lines because these products are designed to flex with movement. Smile lines are a movement-prone area, and using a filler that is too stiff in the wrong place can look unnatural when you talk or smile. Choosing the right product matters as much as choosing the right injector.
Smile Lines: Botox or Fillers?
For smile lines specifically, fillers work better than Botox in most cases. Smile lines are static creases, meaning they are visible even when your face is at rest. Botox treats dynamic wrinkles by relaxing the muscle that causes the movement. The muscles that create smile lines are the ones you smile with, and you do not want those frozen.
Some patients benefit from a combination approach: fillers in the smile line itself, plus a small amount of Botox elsewhere on the face to soften related dynamic wrinkles. Your dermatologist will walk you through what makes sense for your specific anatomy at the consultation.
How Long Do Smile Line Fillers Last?
Most hyaluronic acid fillers used for smile lines last between 9 and 18 months. Newer-generation products like the RHA 3 and 4 formulas tend to last on the longer end of that range. Your individual result depends on your metabolism, how much movement is in the area, and how much filler was placed.

Mild swelling, tenderness, and small bruises are normal. They settle within 5 to 7 days. Call us at (833) 635-2566 if you notice anything that concerns you, especially blanching of the skin, severe pain, or vision changes. These are rare but they need immediate attention.
Real Talk About Volume: How Much Filler Do You Actually Need?
One of the most common questions our Brooklyn and Staten Island patients ask is about the number of syringes required and the associated cost. Here is honest information to help you understand what to expect.
The Teaspoon Perspective
A single syringe of filler contains 1 milliliter of product, which equals roughly one-fifth of a teaspoon. This is a very small amount of volume. When you consider that facial aging involves volume loss across multiple areas, it becomes clear why some patients need more than one syringe to achieve their goals.
Typical Syringe Ranges by Area
These ranges vary based on your anatomy, age, and desired outcome. Your provider will give you an exact recommendation during your consultation.
The Consultation Determines Your Treatment Plan
At kalon Dermatology, every filler treatment begins with a cosmetic consultation. During this appointment, your provider assesses your treatment sites, discusses your goals, and develops a tailored plan including the number of syringes needed. This transparent approach ensures you understand exactly what to expect before any treatment begins.

Investment and Financing
Understanding Filler Pricing
The cost of dermal fillers reflects several factors: the expertise of your injector, the quality of products used, and the safety protocols maintained throughout your treatment. At kalon Dermatology, you receive care from board certified professionals using premium FDA approved fillers in a medical setting. Pricing is determined per syringe, and your total investment depends on the number of syringes in your customized treatment plan. During your consultation, you will receive a complete cost breakdown with no surprises.
