Erbium Laser Skin Resurfacing in Brooklyn
Resurfacing that removes the surface layer of skin is not right for every skin type, and you hear that straight. At kalon Dermatology your skin is read first, and if erbium fits, the energy and depth are matched to your skin to soften brown pigmentation, fine lines, and rough texture. If a gentler option suits you better, you are told that before anything begins.
"The laser treatment was smooth and comfortable, and she walked me through every step."

Quick Facts
At a Glance
Treats
Brown pigmentation and sun spots, fine lines and wrinkles, rough and uneven texture.
How It Works
An erbium laser precisely removes the outermost damaged skin so smoother, more even skin surfaces as it heals, while stimulating renewal underneath.
Who Plans It
Planned and overseen by the kalon Dermatology team, with energy and depth set to your skin type.
Session Time
About 60 to 90 minutes depending on the area treated. Numbing is optional based on depth.
Recovery
Sun protection and no swimming during healing. Recovery depends on how deep the treatment is set.
Skin-Type Fit
Best matched to lighter skin types. Darker skin is assessed carefully because of pigment risk, and may be guided to a gentler option.

Is Erbium Laser Resurfacing Right for Your Concern?
Match your skin concern to what erbium resurfacing can and cannot do in about 30 seconds.
This Concern Match is informational, not medical advice. Candidacy, settings, and recovery vary by person and skin type. Schedule an in-person consult for a plan made for your skin.
Your skin type is read before the laser is set
With a resurfacing laser, how deep it is set is the whole decision, and skin type changes what is safe. At kalon Dermatology a provider examines your skin and your concern first, then matches the energy and depth to you rather than running a fixed setting. That read is what keeps resurfacing from being a one-size pass, and it is why the laser is planned at a dermatology practice rather than treated as a generic service.
"The laser treatment was smooth and comfortable, and she walked me through every step."
You are told honestly when a gentler option fits you better
Erbium resurfacing works best on lighter skin. On medium and darker skin, removing the surface layer carries a higher chance of post-treatment darkening, so the honest answer is sometimes IPL photofacial or a gentler approach instead of a deeper resurfacing. You hear that directly. The goal is the result that fits your skin, not the treatment you happened to ask about.
"Unlike other dermatologists, she is dedicated to finding the root cause of an issue without jumping to prescribing possibly unnecessary medications."

How erbium resurfacing removes damaged skin and renews texture
An erbium laser delivers energy that is absorbed by water in the skin, which lets it remove the outermost damaged layer precisely and with controlled heat to the tissue around it. As that surface is replaced during healing, brown pigmentation and rough texture soften and fine lines look smoother, while renewal is prompted in the layer underneath. Lighter resurfacing means faster recovery and gentler change; deeper resurfacing does more in one pass but asks for more healing time. The depth is chosen for your skin and concern at the consult, not run at a fixed setting.
kalon resurfaces with the 2940 nm Er:YAG laser on its Rohrer Spectrum platform, which does both full and fractional resurfacing. That flexibility lets your provider remove surface pigmentation and soften fine lines and texture at the depth your skin can tolerate, with minimal downtime. This approach is best matched to lighter skin types.

What Erbium Laser Resurfacing Treats
For brown spots and redness without removing surface skin, see IPL photofacial. For lifting and firming, see Sofwave. For facial redness and rosacea, see our rosacea care.
What to Expect, Recovery, and Aftercare
A treatment starts with a skin assessment and photos. Numbing is used based on how deep the resurfacing is set. The session runs about 60 to 90 minutes depending on the area. A pre-treatment and post-treatment skin regimen is often part of the plan, and your provider sets it for your skin.
Recovery depends on depth. During healing, strict sun protection matters and swimming is avoided so the new skin is not irritated or pigmented. Your provider gives you a specific aftercare routine and tells you when normal activity, sun exposure, and your usual skincare can resume. Results show as the surface heals and continue to refine over the following weeks.
