Sagging Skin

As we age, our skin gradually loses elasticity. Over time, the skin’s underlying structure degrades, robbing our faces of their youthful fullness, contour, and resilience. Skin also renews itself more slowly as we age.

What causes sagging skin? As we age the skin begins to lose collagen and elastin. Two compounds necessary for skins reiterative qualities as well as its elasticity. When skin loses its elasticity it loses its ability to ‘snap-back’ and tighten when changes in size and shape. Because of the lack of elastin, the skin loses its ability to rebound from natural forces such as gravity, or even the body’s natural movements.

Other factors include genetics, weight changes, and sun damage. The combination of these factors leads to a sagging appearance of the skin. Fortunately, many treatments are available to improve your appearance and reduce sagging skin.

Treatments In order to treat sagging skin through non-invasive means, we generally use a number of methods. One way to tighten sagging skin is the use dermal fillers like Radiese, Restylane, Botox, Juvederm and Redone.

Another method of treatment for sagging skin is through laser skin resurfacing. Laser energy penetrates the surface stimulating collagen production and causing new tight, youthful skin to grow.
