Top Dermatologists for Botox in Brooklyn
At kalon Dermatology, board-certified dermatologists treat your face, not a chart. Dr. David Biro and Dr. Michael Gladstein lead a team that maps facial muscle patterns before any needle goes in. The goal isn’t to erase every line. It’s to soften the lines that bother you while keeping the expressions that make you, you.
Patients tell us they’ve avoided Botox for years because they’re afraid of looking frozen. We hear that, and our work answers it. Conservative dosing. Layered touch-ups instead of one heavy session. Real follow-up so the dose lands where you want it.
“As both a physician and a patient myself, I understand the trust it takes to pursue any cosmetic treatment. With Botox, our goal is never to change who you are, it is to help you look as refreshed and vibrant as you feel. Every face tells a story, and our job is to enhance it, not erase it.”
Dr. David Biro, MD, PhD, Board-Certified Dermatologist

Customized Cosmetic Botox Areas: Forehead, Eyes & Lower Face
Upper Face: Smooth Forehead Lines, Frown Lines & Crow's Feet
The upper face is where dynamic wrinkles first appear. We commonly treat horizontal forehead lines that form when you raise your eyebrows, glabella lines (the "11s" between your brows) from frowning, and crow's feet around the eyes from smiling and squinting. Strategic placement relaxes these muscles while maintaining natural brow movement.
Lower Face Contouring: Lip Flip & Chin Dimpling
Botox is not just for the upper face. A lip flip uses small amounts of Botox along the upper lip border to create a subtle pout and reduce vertical lip lines. We also treat chin dimpling ("orange peel" texture) and bunny lines on the nose for comprehensive facial rejuvenation.
Facial Slimming: Masseter Botox for Jawline Contouring in Brooklyn
Masseter Botox has become one of our most requested treatments. By relaxing the masseter muscles along the jawline, we can create a slimmer, more contoured facial profile. This treatment is ideal for patients who clench their jaw or want to soften a square jawline. Results develop gradually over several weeks as the muscle relaxes.
About Botox
Botox is the trade name for botulinum toxin type A, a purified protein that the FDA first cleared for cosmetic use in 2002 [1]. When injected in microdoses into specific facial muscles, it temporarily blocks the nerve signal that tells those muscles to contract. The skin above the muscle relaxes. The wrinkle softens. You keep your expression, you just lose the line that comes with it.
Botox is the most-performed minimally invasive cosmetic treatment in the United States, with over 8.7 million procedures in 2022 [2]. It’s also FDA-approved for several medical conditions: chronic migraine, severe underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis), cervical dystonia, blepharospasm, strabismus, and overactive bladder [1]. At kalon Dermatology we treat both cosmetic and medical indications.
The protein itself is a naturally-occurring neurotoxin produced by Clostridium botulinum bacteria, but the medical-grade product used in injection is purified, dose-controlled, and has decades of safety data behind it [3].
Benefits of Botox
The right Botox plan does more than soften lines. It changes how a face looks rested in real-world light, in photos, and on video calls. Patients in Brooklyn and Staten Island come to kalon for:
- Smoother forehead, glabella, and crow’s-feet with full expression preserved
- A subtle “lip flip” that defines the upper lip without filler
- Slimmer jawline contour through masseter Botox, especially for clenchers and grinders
- Relief from chronic tension headaches and migraine, FDA-approved at 15+ headache days per month [1]
- Reduced underarm sweating for up to six months per treatment, FDA-approved for primary hyperhidrosis [1]
- Less jaw pain and tooth wear from bruxism, by relaxing the masseter and temporalis muscles
- Preventative softening for patients in their late 20s and early 30s before deep static lines set in
Botox results last three to four months on average, with maintenance schedules built around your unit count and how your muscles metabolize the product.
Ideal Candidates for Botox
Botox works best when the wrinkle is dynamic (caused by muscle motion) and the skin still has elasticity. You’re likely a good candidate if:
- You’re 25 or older and notice expression lines holding even after your face relaxes
- You’re 35 to 55 and want the same expression you’ve had, just less pronounced
- You have horizontal forehead lines, glabella (“11s”), or crow’s-feet you’d like softened
- You grind your teeth, clench, or wake with jaw tension
- You have chronic migraines documented at 15+ days a month
- You have severe underarm sweating that prescription antiperspirants don’t control
Botox is not the right treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a known allergy to botulinum toxin or any of its components, have a neuromuscular disorder (myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton, ALS), or have an active skin infection at the planned injection site [1]. Your consultation includes a full medical-history review so we can flag anything before treatment.
Personal Consultation with Dr. David Biro
Dr. David Biro, MD, PhD, is a board-certified dermatologist and Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn. He earned his BA from the University of Pennsylvania, his MD from Columbia University, and his PhD from Oxford University.
Your Botox consultation with Dr. Biro covers six things:
- A full medical history and skin assessment, with special attention to anything that would contraindicate treatment
- A facial-motion mapping (he watches your face raise, frown, smile, and squint) so the units land where the muscle is actually moving
- A discussion of your aesthetic goals (what you want softened, what you want left alone)
- A clear unit count and itemized cost, with no upselling and no add-ons unless you ask
- A discussion of timing: whether to start cosmetic Botox today, on a maintenance schedule, or layered with other treatments
- Time for your questions. We’d rather you take 30 minutes to decide than 30 seconds.
Dr. Biro works alongside Dr. Michael Gladstein, MD (board-certified dermatologist), Danny Bronshtein, NP-C, MSN (board-certified nurse practitioner, Master’s from CUNY), and Yelena Terushkin, PA-C, MSPA (physician assistant licensed in NY and FL with experience in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology). For Botox specifically, your injector will be a member of this team: a dermatologist, an NP, or a PA, all trained in dermatology.

How to Prepare for Your Botox Appointment
Botox is a quick procedure, and there’s not much to prepare. The few things that matter:
- Two weeks before: stop fish-oil and vitamin E supplements. Both thin blood and increase the chance of bruising at injection sites.
- One week before: stop NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirin) unless they’re prescribed and you can’t pause. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is fine.
- 48 hours before: skip alcohol. Wine and beer dilate small facial vessels and bruising shows up more easily.
- Day of: come in with clean skin, no makeup if convenient. Eat normally. Hydrate.
- What to mention at intake: if you’ve had Botox before, bring your last unit count and treatment date. If you’ve had a cold sore at any injection site, tell us so we can pre-treat with antivirals.
If you’re getting Botox for chronic migraine or hyperhidrosis, your insurance may need a prior authorization. We can submit one for you. Please ask at booking so we can start that 2 to 3 weeks ahead.
The Botox Procedure
A typical Botox visit takes 15 to 30 minutes from check-in to walking out. Your provider cleanses the area, marks the injection points based on the muscle map taken at consultation, applies a topical numbing cream (or, for masseter Botox, a brief ice pack), and then administers a precise series of microinjections.
Cosmetic Botox Areas
Upper Face: Forehead Lines, “11s,” and Crow’s-Feet. Horizontal lines from raising your eyebrows, the glabellar lines between your brows, and the radiating lines around your eyes when you smile or squint. Dr. Biro and the team treat these with strategic placement that softens the wrinkle while preserving the brow lift you actually want.
Lower Face: Lip Flip, Chin Dimpling, Bunny Lines. Small amounts along the upper-lip border for a subtle pout. Treatment of the mentalis for “orange peel” chin texture. Treatment of the nasalis for bunny lines on the bridge of the nose.
Masseter Botox for Jawline Contour. By relaxing the masseter muscle, we soften a square jawline and reduce the bulk that comes from clenching. Typical dose is 25 to 50 units per side. Results develop gradually over 4 to 8 weeks as the muscle relaxes.
Therapeutic Botox
TMJ and Bruxism. Botox into the masseter and temporalis muscles relieves jaw tension and reduces grinding force. Patients often report less morning jaw pain within 7 to 10 days [4].
Chronic Migraine. For patients with 15+ headache days per month, FDA-approved Botox is administered across 31 fixed injection points spanning the frontalis, temporalis, occipitalis, cervical paraspinal, and trapezius muscle groups [1]. We provide insurance documentation on request.
Hyperhidrosis. For severe underarm sweating, Botox blocks the nerve signals to sweat glands. Treatment takes under 30 minutes and lasts up to 6 months [1].
Specialized Approaches
Botox for Men (“Brotox”). Men’s facial muscles are typically larger and stronger, requiring adjusted dosing and placement. The goal: rested, not “done.”
Preventative Botox (“Baby Botox”). Smaller doses for patients in their late 20s and early 30s, before deep static lines have formed.
Recovery and Aftercare
Botox has effectively no downtime. Most patients walk out, get coffee, and go back to work. The few rules that matter for the first 24 hours:
- Don’t lie down for 4 hours after injection. Stay upright. This keeps the toxin from migrating to muscles you didn’t intend to treat [3].
- Don’t rub or massage the treated area for 24 hours. Same reason.
- Skip strenuous exercise, hot yoga, sauna, and steam rooms for 24 hours. Increased blood flow can accelerate diffusion.
- Skip alcohol for the rest of the day. Aids bruise prevention.
- Tiny bumps at the injection sites are normal and resolve in 15 to 30 minutes. Pin-point bruising can last 2 to 5 days. Arnica gel helps; we’ll send you home with a sample if you bruise easily.
If anything feels off (asymmetry, drooping eyelid, unexpected weakness in a muscle group), call us. We see all touch-up patients within 14 days at no additional charge if a small adjustment is needed.
Botox Results: Onset, Peak, and Duration
Most patients see the first signs of softening at 2 to 3 days. The result peaks at about 14 days, when all the targeted muscles are at their lowest activity. From there, the effect gradually wears off over 3 to 4 months as the nerve endings regenerate [3].
A typical maintenance schedule looks like:
- Cosmetic Botox: every 3 to 4 months, with a small touch-up at week 2 if needed
- Masseter Botox: every 4 to 6 months (the muscle takes longer to rebuild)
- Migraine Botox: every 12 weeks per FDA dosing
- Hyperhidrosis Botox: every 6 to 9 months
Patients who maintain a consistent schedule often need fewer units over time, because the muscles “learn” the lower activity pattern. Patients who let the effect fully wear off and start over each time tend to need closer to the original unit count.
Corresponding and Complementary Procedures
Botox addresses dynamic wrinkles. For the static lines that show even when your face is at rest, or for volume loss, contour, or skin texture, we may layer Botox with one or more of the following at kalon Dermatology:
- Dermal Fillers: for static lines, lip volume, nasolabial folds, and tear-trough hollowing. Often combined with Botox in the same visit.
- Sofwave: non-surgical facelift, ultrasound-based skin tightening for the lower face and submentum. Works alongside Botox for combined relaxation and tightening.
- Facials: medical-grade facials for skin texture, congestion, and pigmentation. Recommended in the weeks between Botox visits.
- Laser Treatments: for sun damage, redness, and resurfacing.
- PRP Microneedling: for fine line texture, scarring, and overall skin rejuvenation.
- Hyperhidrosis Treatment: detailed page for excessive sweating, including non-Botox alternatives.
- Wrinkles and Fine Lines Overview: broader page on the full wrinkle-treatment menu.
Your consultation includes a recommendation about combining treatments based on what you want to address and what’s appropriate for your skin and timing.
