What are acne keloids and how are they formed?

As acne worsens it can become cystic. Leaving scars and impressions along the skin’s surface, forming keloids. A keloid is an overgrowth of scar tissue around a wound.

Keloidal scars are thick, raised scars, which ore usually very red in appearance. They may even feel slightly tender to the touch, and they do not improve on their own over time.

Keloids can develop after acne, body spots, piercings, lacerations, or burns. Infected wounds such as those created by cystic acne, can increase the risk of keloids.

How to treat keloids using injections? There ore a few methods used to treat keloid acne scars. Depending on the location, appearance, and size of keloid, a different course of treatment will be recommended.

The most common and effective method used o series of cortisone injections directly into the scar. Generally given in a series of shots, the injections will flatten the keloid and the waste material inside will be absorbed by the body.

The scar will disappear however the skin may have some depressions or bumps remaining so we recommend using a fractional laser or a series of laser resurfacing treatments.
